New Ideas in Powder Metallurgy

The program for the 2005 International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials (PM²TEC2005), June 19-23, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, includes more than 240 technical presentations focusing on new trends in metal powders and particulate materials, powder metallurgy, (P/M) processes and new products.  Authors from 29 countries will cover developments in cemented carbides, chromium steel, high performance P/M steels, nanomaterials, porous materials, stainless steel, titanium, tungsten heavy alloys, innovative densification techniques, high temperature and liquid phase sintering, magnetics, mechanical powder production, modeling, powder forging, atomization and sinter hardening.

Sponsored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation, the conference also includes a trade exhibition and award presentations in the annual International P/M Design and Metallography competitions, APMI International Fellow Awards, and Distinguished Service to P/M Awards.  The conference program committee is chaired by Candido Ruas, QMP, and Ted A. Case Study # 3
Case Study #3: Curved Scissor Blades
Component: Curved Scissor Blades
Challenge:  To develop a coining process that would produce consistent dimensions throughout the length of the curved blade thus assuring blade interference for cutting efficacy.
Solution: Use of controls, including SPC, to step up and maintain coining and monitor of the coining process.
